Plasma Saves Lives

Did you know that people with hemophilia are not the only ones who rely on therapies made from donated human plasma?

People with a variety of other life-threatening conditions, including Primary Immune Deficiency, use intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and human serum albumin (HSA).  Although most people with hemophilia now use recombinant products, some others with rare bleeding disorders, von Willebrand disease, or inhibitors would have no treatment without products derived from plasma donations.

Without the help of the many people who donate their plasma, some individuals with rare bleeding disorders, von Willebrand disease, or inhibitors would have no treatment.

The Coalition for Hemophilia B is part of APLUS (American Plasma Users Coalition), a group of organizations representing patients who use plasma-derived therapies. Together we are working to keep these therapies safe and accessible and to create awareness about the importance of donating plasma. As this campaign rolls out, we will be highlighting how plasma donations have helped patients in our community.

Many people with bleeding disorders may not be eligible to donate blood or plasma, but if there are people in your life who are not personally affected, please consider encouraging them to help. To learn more or to find a plasma donation center near you, please visit PlasmaHero.org.
